Building processes are becoming increasingly complex. In order to guarantee an efficient process and good communication, we make use of a digital building model (Building Information Model/BIM). Throughout the entire process, all relevant information is stored, used and managed in this model. Coordination between the various design and advice disciplines takes place using this model. As a result of all the parties involved in the building process making use of the same information and having insight in each other's progress, misunderstandings and, by extension, the costs of failure are prevented during the design and implementation phases. It also means that the spatial requirements and qualities can be verified at any moment. As a result, the design process is completely transparent for the client/user as well.
We encourage discussion of the underlying principles for the model at an early stage, so that the model is introduced in the right way, and can ultimately be used for its intended purposes. JHK Architecten works with Revit software as their 3D design programme. Examples of projects that were integrally designed and developed using a digital design model are the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Leiden, P&R Hooggelegen in Utrecht and BioPartner Incubator III in Leiden.
