The Foundation for the promotion of Health and Environmental Hygiene (SVM) in Bilthoven is a producer and supplier of vaccine products.
On the Varenkamp site next to the RIVM complex, a building has been designed that provides office facilities and production and storage areas with a total gross floor area of 4,600 m².
The building is situated with the front elevation and the entrance side on the line of the land use plan boundary. As a result, the orientation of the building matches the building on the adjacent RIVM site. Parking can take place on the strip in front of the building in the continuation of the already present parking terrain opposite the Cohen building in the RIVM complex.
The frontage of the building consists of a strip of offices three storeys high. General functions such as the entrance, canteen and interview rooms have been included here. An intermediary zone with staircases, lifts and sanitary functions marks the transition to the production and storage areas at the rear.
Indentations in the building volume at the point of the staircases and the entrance provide natural light and transparency in the entrance area and the corridor zones.
In this way, at the location of the canteen op the second floor, the external space has been made useful by creating a balcony. Fitting in with the industrial character of the business process, the building's façade is clad with aluminium silver-grey corrugated sheeting. The façade at the location of the offices at the front is executed with Emalit® glass panels. To support the architectural concept, the glass façade-filling frontages at the location of the entrance, canteen and staircases were designed with a contrasting weathered type of wood.
