Close to Rotterdam city centre, on the former site of the Oranjeboom brewery, next to the location of Unilever's deBrug/deKade, there are plans for a new city neighbourhood: d'Oranjeboom.
The plan comprises two closed urban blocks, each with its own inner garden. In total, d'Oranjeboom consists of around 450 homes, divided over 17 properties. The appearance of d'Oranjeboom is so diverse because each building has its own type of access, housing programme and architecture. The architecture ranges from lively on the Nassaukade to introverted in the residential streets. Besides JHK Architecten, architectural firm MVRDV is designing two of the quayside buildings.
