The design for Atos Origin is situated on Cluster 4 of FlightForum in Eindhoven. The urban planning design was by MVRDV and prescribes clear stipulations for new buildings. The requirements to build on the entire perimeter of the plot and provide the building with a continuous façade motif give the complex its unique and distinctive appearance.
The building provides ca 18,900 m² of office space, spread over two levels and five structural elements. Seen from the outside however, the building looks like a single entity because the building parts are linked alternately in the façade on the ground floor and the second floor. The curved external façade displays strong vertical segmentation and is implemented in dark brick; it forms the hard shell of the building. Because the building parts are only linked on the second floor in four places, gateways are created leading to the patios and entrance courts of the building. The patios and entrance courts have a technical appearance with light materials and make a clear contrast with the dark external shell.
There is a central axis running through the building, which connects four of the five structural elements. This axis forms the building's central access. The entrances and pantries are located where the axis runs through the patios. The axis splits the building units into two equal parts, creating floor slabs of ca 750 m².
In line with the urban design plan, parking facilities have been included in a ring surrounding the building. In addition, the ground floor of the building is available for parking, with the exception of the patios in front of the entrance areas.
The final result is a complex that comes across as strongly monolithic when seen from the ring road but at the scale of the visitors has intimate and stylish spaces.
